Modern Foreign Languages is led by Mrs Warner.

At Bovingdon Primary Academy we give our pupils the skills and the knowledge to learn another language, primarily focussing on French. We teach pupils about other cultures to foster their curiosity and deepen their understanding.

French is taught from Years 3 to 6 by Mrs Warner. We teach and assess across the four strands of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Pupils cover a range of topics from numbers, colours, food, clothing, school, weather and many more. Pupils enjoy a one hour French lesson each week, every other half term.

Key language and skills are taught through songs, stories and games alongside traditional teaching. Children are given the opportunity to work collaboratively to perform in French such as a weather report in Year 5 and a fashion show in Year 6.

Each week we have a French phrase of the week which is displayed in all KS2 classrooms, in the corridor and is published in the newsletter.

Each September we celebrate ‘European Day of Languages’ where pupils are given the opportunity to learn about all aspects of another country as well as share their own knowledge and experiences. This year the children came to school dressed in the colours of a European flag and our wonderful kitchen supplied each class with a wide variety of foods to try from different European countries.
