A Bovingdon Primary Academy Mathematician should leave at the end of KS2 with …

  • an understanding of the important concepts in maths, supported by a spiral curriculum that builds on methods and approaches taught in previous year groups
  • an ability to make connections within mathematics and present these both verbally; and in the form of written and pictorial answers
  • a broad range of skills in using and applying mathematics, including reasoning skills to mathematically work through a variety of question types
  • fluent knowledge, recall and understanding of number facts with rapidity
  • the ability to show initiative in solving problems in a wide range of contexts and in everyday life examples
  • the ability to think independently and to persevere when faced with challenges, therefore showing mathematical resilience
  • the ability to use a wide range of mathematical vocabulary, where appropriate, to explain and disseminate information
  • fluency in performing written and mental calculations independently
  • a commitment to and passion for the subject, with a recognition of its importance in later life
