About our Reception
Life in Reception is full of fun, laughter and curiosity. It is the time where children develop a wealth of vital skills and knowledge that they will use throughout their school and home lives. Children learn best when they feel safe and calm but also when they are having fun, so we teach through their play.
During the school day children partake in a range of both adult led activities, where teachers work with the whole class or small groups to teach new skills and knowledge. Children also engage in child initiated learning, where they practise the skills they have been taught with the support of skilled practitioners through independent play.
Learning takes place both within the classroom, on the playground and in our nature area known as ‘Springfield’. We enjoy exploring the world around us come rain or shine.

How to apply for a Reception place
If your child is born between 1st September 2019 and 31st August 2020, you will be able to apply for their Reception place online between 1st November 2023 – 15th January 2024.
All children start Reception in September. We recognise that the first term in Reception is an important transition point and we make sure that activities support all the children, including those who may be away from home for a full day for the first time.
All applications for Reception places are handled by the local authority – you can find more information on the Hertfordshire County Council website. If you do not have easy access to a computer, or if you need any assistance working out what to do, please contact the school office on 01442 406545 and we will be able to help!
You will receive an e-mail on 16th April 2024 confirming which school you have been allocated.
